The overall internet population is increasing at a rapid pace. Many pundits see the population online by year 2010 as being in the region of 2 billion plus.
What does this mean to internet marketers?
It means internet marketers have got to be able to cater for any demand. The diversity factor will necessitate this.
Not only young people will be online, but much older people also. The demands will be totally different. Whilst younger people will be flocking to video places online like YouTube and MySpace, the older generation will be into gardening web sites, home design and interior decoration sites, and even hobbies sites. Some will be into financial and investment web sites, online shopping web sites and malls. Online investment clubs will spring up to cater for the older people who have disposable income to invest.
The travel industry will also expand it’s reach online as more people will want to holiday abroad. Online travel agencies, ticket agencies for entertainment and sport, are there already, more will join them. Health and medical sites will become quite popular with the more elderly cybernauts, while suppliers of anything from zimmer frames to wheelchairs will find there is a great demand from people who can’t get around so well anymore.
The internet marketer will become an internet affiliate, catering for all these demands, the link in the supply chain from supplier to consumer. Suppliers will set up their own affiliate networks with thousands of affiliates worldwide who have their own web sites to show off the salespages for their suppliers goods or services.
A recent survey found that in year 2005 luxury goods such as jewelry, diamonds, watches and expensive handbags, flew of virtual store shelves – 7.5% of total online retailing. Expected figures are by 2010 this will be 14% or more. Consumers are feeling more confident of buying online with well known brand names than ever before, the affiliate for these big brand names can make an easy living in the future.
