Working affiliate marketing programs into your business plan is a good way to increase your website’s revenue. Picking the right merchants to become involved with, however, can determine whether your business plan works successfully or not.
Start with foundation merchants
Whether you like it or not, there are certain merchants that you will need to become involved with if your affiliate marketing program is going to work. Amazon.com is the overriding merchant that needs to be a part of your plan. For the most part, it is fairly easy to become a part of their program and, besides, your customer will likely end-up there at some point whether for your product or another. They offer decent rewards and can lead to excellent returns if the customer is converted on another product in addition to yours. Amazon.com is also important because, if you can get your site associated with theirs, the customer may keep coming back to your site as a means of getting to Amazon.com. In either fashion, your site gets the affiliate marketing credit and the cash.
Collateral advertising
The affiliate marketing merchants you will find most helpful are those that run collateral advertising programs. If the merchant tends to run newspaper, TV or web ads for promotions through the year, you can capitalize by tailoring your site to those promotions. Add another 5% off to the merchants’ sale and you’ll win on several fronts. Not all of the best merchants are large but in many cases those that are will offer you latitude in how you go about profiting from them.
